Prostate cancer develops in the prostate, a small, walnut-shaped gland located below a man’s bladder. Prostate cancer is one of the most common forms of cancer in men and the second-leading cause of men’s cancer deaths in the United States.
Growths in the prostate aren’t always cancerous. A benign or noncancerous prostate tumor won’t spread to other parts of the body or invade surrounding tissues. A malignant or cancerous prostate tumor can spread to other organs and different parts of your body.
In the early stages of prostate cancer, you may not experience any signs or symptoms. A simple blood test can screen for evidence of prostate cancer before you begin to experience symptoms.
